Why is Goat Milk Soap so special?
Goat's milk is a natural emollient that helps soothe and moisturize the skin. It contains Vitamins A, B6, B12 and E. Goat's milk has three times more beta-casein than cow's milk, which is easily absorbed into the skin and allow for quick hydration of dry skin. The content of triglycerides, capric, caprylic and caproic acid helps balance the skin's natural pH and promotes natural exfoliation of dead skin cells, keeping your skin vibrant and glowing. And Goat's Milk makes a lovely, creamy, moisturizing bar that has been in demand the world over for centuries! Cleopatra bathed in goat's milk and recipes for goat's milk soap can be found dating to ancient times. They might not have known the "scientific" reason why goat's milk was so kind to the skin, but they knew that it certainly was, and found every opportunity to use it to maintain a stunning complexion.Hand-crafted soaps also contain natural glycerin, which is a by-product of the soap-making process and helps the skin retain its natural moisture. Commercial soap manufacturers remove the glycerin by means of steam-extraction to use in lotions, liquid soap and pure glycerin soap. That's just one reason commercial soaps, no matter how expensive, tend to be very drying to your skin. Another reason is that commercial manufacturers have to maintain a high profit margin, so they use "cheap" fats and filler oils that do nothing to soften, moisturize and condition your skin. Then, they add a tiny bit of a special oil and call that a "luxury" soap. Compared to most hand-crafted soaps - far from it! I mean, you can make soap from rendered bacon grease and water, but I wouldn't want to use it on my face!
I started making soap because we have a small goat dairy and I wanted another way to utilize the wonderful, life-giving goat milk that we had an abundance of during milking season. And I have always had problem skin. Acne, eczema, sun damage, and now as I've gotten older, wrinkles, too! Add to that we live in one of the driest (and sunniest) climates in the United States, here in the high desert of central New Mexico, and my skin didn't stand a chance. Until I started making my own soap!
I began with a basic soap recipe, substituted goat milk for the water, then started "pushing" it to the limits to see how much wonderful, nourishing oils and other special, organic ingredients I could put into it and still call it "soap"! I was determined that every ingredient would be beneficial to my skin in some way. And of course, instead of using water, I used 100% full fat organic raw fresh goat's milk! I was making this soap for myself and my family, so I used the best quality ingredients and didn't skimp by using any "filler" oils. Every ingredient had a job to do! As my foundation oils, I chose Olive Oil, Palm Oil and Coconut Oil, for their own special qualities. They certainly aren't cheap, filler oils! Olive Oil is considered a luxury oil all by itself, and is the main oil used in many specialty castile-type soaps, which are very mild and nourishing. Palm Oil and Coconut Oil have many wonderful qualities themselves, including being high in a special form of easily absorbable Vitamin E, and all three contribute to a nice, hard bar of soap that will last a long time. Read more about them here.
I made the soap "Super-fatted" so that it had extra-moisturizing qualities, and then I added an additional amount of a "special " oil, like Sweet Almond Oil or Avocado Oil, and suspended it in the final mixing, just before it was poured into the molds, so that when the soap was used, that wonderful oil was immediately available to nourish and moisturize your skin. The creamy milk lather is unbelievably rich and thick, like the thickest whipped cream you can imagine, only richer because of the suspended oil! And it never leaves your skin feeling tight or tingly, like drying commercial soaps do. Just cleansed, nourished and moisturized.
And everyone loved my soaps! They kept asking for different kinds of soaps, for different needs, and I kept developing wonderful recipes to meet those needs.
So now we have a full line of soaps for all your cleansing needs, from a daily, facial bar to shaving soap, baby soap, super-luxury facial and body bar and specialty bars for every skin type. And every one of them is made from only the finest, purest and most nourishing ingredients I can find, grow or milk!
My family and friends rave about them, and are my best advertisement. We sell them at the local Farmer's Market, along with our farm produce and our organic, rainwatered Blackberries. People line up to buy them, and I always sell out. And now, we're selling them online, too, so that YOU can have the opportunity to buy these incredible, nourishing soaps for your family, too.
